About Us
Finding Inspiration in Every Turn
It started with an opportunity to contribute
to our community through a small business - Thrifty Dutchess.
It’s been soul-nourishing to help provide families and individuals
with clothing and housewares at affordable prices.
The ecological aspect of this business
is also important - keeping textiles out of landfills.
Repurposing material, creating something new out of something old
is amazing and necessary in a world filled with fast-fashion,
disposable consumerism and over consumption.
Thrifty Dutchess nurtures creativity and unique style
while providing opportunities for people to exercise their generosity
by donating their gently used items.
Meet The Team

Cathy
Originally from Winnipeg and proudly French/Scottish-Canadian, Cathy is a teacher, entrepreneur, and community leader with a passion for people. She loves building connections, supporting local initiatives, and creating welcoming spaces where everyone feels at home. An optimistic advocate for the Wood Buffalo region, she founded Thrifty Dutchess to combine her love of community, sustainability, and discovering hidden treasures.

Sydney Brentnall
With a family deeply rooted in Newfoundland, Sydney is proud to be born and raised in Fort McMurray. A passionate thrifter and creative maker, she loves discovering unique treasures and transforming them through jewelry-making, fiber arts, painting, and other artistic pursuits. She volunteers with the Supertest Speedway at Area 63 and dreams of one day opening a thrift store of her own. Her goal is to inspire others to embrace creativity, sustainability, and the joy of second-hand treasures.
"Every thrifted item has a story—and sometimes all it needs is the right person to help write the next chapter."

Hamza Hassan
Originally from Pakistan, Hamza brings a welcoming spirit and genuine enthusiasm for community connection to Thrifty Dutchess. He enjoys thrifting for the opportunity to meet new people, discover one-of-a-kind treasures, and learn the stories behind them. Outside of work, Hamza enjoys traveling, gaming, and exploring different cultures and traditions from around the world. His friendly nature and curiosity make him a valued member of the team and a familiar face to customers.
